Advice for Caregivers

Your role as a carer for someone living with Coronary Artery Disease is important.

Here are examples of ways you can help:

  • Manage medications
  • Keep notes on doctor visits, appointments and insurance
  • Offer to exercise together
  • Don't smoke
  • Help learn to read labels on foods and shop for better heart health
  • Help plan and prepare heart-healthy meals
  • Go along to doctor appointments to help take notes and provide additional information or insights into your loved one's condition.
  • Listen to your loved one's concerns and frustrations and offer support.
  • Encourage your loved one to join a support group to share experiences and thoughts with others in the same situation. (Hospitals and community centres often have support groups.)
